Buying a home is one of the most significant financial decisions you can make. Beyond being just a place to live, owning a home can appreciate significantly in value. However, rising prices mean that affordability is a major concern for many prospective buyers.
As of October, the average home value in the US reached $360,385, marking a 2.4% increase compared to last year.
With mortgage rates climbing, monthly payments are becoming steeper; currently, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate stands at 6.78% as of November 14.
While property prices are on the rise throughout the nation, certain cities attract higher price tags than their counterparts. Factors such as location, size, age, and condition play critical roles in determining a home’s value.
Stacker has created a ranking of the top cities in New York where homes are most expensive, drawing on information from Zillow. This list ranks cities based on the Zillow Home Values Index for all homes as of October 2024 and is visualized using Matplotlib.
