Maui, Hawaii, USA
During our trip to Maui in late September 2018, we stumbled upon a significant production happening right near one of our go-to beaches! Soon, it was disclosed that the early 2000’s reality show Temptation Island was undergoing a reboot and was being filmed on location in Maui. The production secured several Maui properties for filming, including an impressive beachfront villa for the men and a spacious mountain estate for the women. Located in a prestigious part of Kāʻanapali, the men’s villa resides on a street featuring just six beachfront lots, known for having some of the priciest real estate on the island. This expansive property boasts over 11,000 square feet, eight bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, and one half-bath, in addition to a media room, library, and caretaker’s quarters. Massive walls open to a grand lanai and an inviting swimming pool that overlooks the ocean. As filming began, a bamboo barrier was constructed at the back of the property to maintain privacy from onlookers. The crew often filmed on the adjacent beach and utilized scuba divers with waterproof cameras for shots from the water. This property was listed for sale between 2010 and 2012 for $23,800,000 and is currently available for rent at a rate of up to $14,800 per night. Real estate in Kāʻanapali is a luxury, with its powdery beaches and breathtaking ocean views, leading to limited availability and high demand. A nearby 0.88-acre lot close to the Temptation Island villa is currently priced at $11,500,000. Further down the boardwalk, there’s an impressive home designed by renowned architecture firm Ike Kligerman Barkley. Next door, Rod Roddenberry, the son of Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, is building an 8,000 square-foot residence complete with an infinity pool. Scroll down to explore the interiors of this vast beachfront mansion and catch some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the production!
