Manchester-By-The-Sea, Massachusetts, United States
The architectural team at Carpenter & MacNeille has significantly revamped a coastal property, which is now considered one of the most stunning homes in Manchester-By-The-Sea. According to the firm, this custom shingle-style house was crafted to appear as if it naturally developed from the original stick-style cottage built in 1873. The finished home features striking design elements that give the impression that it has always been part of the landscape. Known as Oakledge, the house integrates advanced 21st-century technologies such as geothermal heating, solar energy systems, and modern building materials and methods. An article featured in Ocean Home magazine (June – July 2016) shares that much of the original foundation from the 1873 cottage has been preserved, and a wing added in 1896 has now become the home’s spacious living room. Inside, the home offers a sophisticated yet cozy atmosphere, ideal for family life by the water, with features that include an elegant entryway, a study with mahogany paneling, a gourmet kitchen, and a luxurious porch facing the ocean, equipped with a pizza oven and fireplace. This expansive property covers just over 6,700 square feet, providing eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It is set on a 1.59-acre rocky peninsula overlooking Manchester Bay, incorporating a seaside swimming pool and multiple outdoor areas for dining and entertaining.
