If you’re a fan of Melissa McCarthy and have watched the 2014 movie Tammy, you may recall the stunning shingle-style house featured in the film. This home belonged to Lenore (Kathy Bates) and Susanne (Sandra Oh), who hosted a grand 4th of July celebration there. The film showcases the beautiful property extensively. Created by architect Alex D. Latham III and built by David James, the coastal residence was designed for social gatherings, offering 6,900 square feet in the main house, along with 2,400 square feet of patios and decks. In addition, there’s a separate guest house above a three-car garage that provides another 900 square feet. The estate spans 2.17 acres and boasts 700 feet of waterfront along Whiskey Creek and the ICWW. Highlights of the property include a large freeform saltwater pool, Kolbe & Kolbe hurricane resilient windows and doors, along with a floating dock equipped with four boat slips and a lift.
The house was recognized as a Home of Distinction in the September 2009 issue of Wrightsville Beach Magazine and was later re-listed as one of the Best Homes of Distinction in the January 2015 issue. Moreover, it appeared in the July 2015 issue of Better Living. This location has been a backdrop for several films, including “A Walk to Remember”, “Mary and Martha” (starring Hilary Swank), “Tammy” (as Lenore’s lakeside retreat), and the Nicholas Sparks film “The Choice.” The property last changed hands in 2017 for $3,295,000.
